Small Development Summer Socials

Connect with small development practitioners across the Bay Area and Sacramento region.

Join Build It Green this summer for a series of casual happy hours designed to bring together small development practitioners and ecosystem partners across Northern California.

These gatherings are an opportunity to meet builders, developers, financiers, government agencies, manufacturers, suppliers, potential clients, and other partners who are helping move small-scale development forward.

Small development depends on more than technical knowledge. It also depends on relationships, trust, local insight, and shared capacity. These socials are designed to help strengthen the networks that support regenerative housing and neighborhood development.

Bay Area Summer Socials

  • June 4: Hear from Build It Green about upcoming programs designed to support small developers and learn how to get involved.
  • June 11: Connect with local government representatives from across the Bay Area and bring your questions about local regulations and permitting.
  • June 18: Explore innovative building technologies, products, and services that can help support your development goals.
  • June 25: Talk with financing providers about capital sources for your project and learn what it takes to become borrowing ready.

Who should attend

These socials are open to small-scale developers, builders, designers, financiers, agencies, suppliers, manufacturers, potential clients, and anyone interested in strengthening the small development ecosystem.

Whether you are actively working on a project, exploring future opportunities, or looking to build relationships in the field, we invite you to join us.

Sacramento region Summer Social registration details, locations, and event page will be shared at a later date.

Regenerative Sourcing: Turning a Common Challenge Into an Opportunity

Material sourcing is one of the most common challenges for small-scale developers. It can be time-consuming, unclear, and often frustrating. But as we heard during Choosing Materials That Matter: A Roundtable for Small-Scale Builders, it can also be one of the most powerful places to improve a project. The right approach to sourcing can save money, reduce delays, lower impact, and help teams build smarter from the beginning.

Financing Small-Scale Housing: Takeaways from Virtual Roundtable

Everyone’s talking about small-scale housing, with one of the biggest questions being how to fund it. On May 15, we brought together over 120 participants for a Virtual Roundtable on Finance to tackle that exact challenge. Panelists Jean Lu (US Bank), Josh Morrison (Frolic Community), Carlos Plazola (Buildzig), Sibley Simon (New Way Homes), and Elizabeth Wampler (Bay Area LISC) led a conversation on what’s working, what’s not, and where the opportunities are for making small, community-rooted housing financially feasible.
