What Others Are Saying About Us
Our Annual Action Reports
2025 Action Report
Over the past year, Build It Green has strengthened the foundation for a different kind of housing future, one rooted in people, place, and nature. By working alongside residential development practitioners, community leaders, and changemakers across California, BIG is helping shift housing development away from practices that degrade ecosystems, destabilize communities, and extract from working people, and toward approaches that build capacity, strengthen relationships, and support thriving neighborhoods.
Convening, Cultivating, Co-Creating & Transforming Housing from the Ground Up: 2024-2025 Action Report
In a time of deepening environmental and social challenges, Build It Green pursues bold, community-centered strategies to ensure that how California builds housing advances the well-being of both human communities and natural ecosystems. From cultivating the small-scale development sector and convening changemakers across the state to identify transformative action, to rethinking electrification and funding grassroots innovation, our programs over the last year have supported a shift in residential development toward nurturing people, places, and nature..
Coalescing Changemakers to Catalyze Regenerative Design & Transform Communities: 2023 Action Report
In 2023, we committed to creating spaces for people in diverse sectors in housing to activate new ideas and build regenerative communities throughout California. Our 2023 Gathering catalyzed new partnerships for equitable housing and community development, and new priority initiatives emerged, taking shape through our Panel Optimization Work and Electrical Reassessments (POWER) and Regenerative Communities Initiatives, among others. As we focused on bridging silos, building relationships, and growing our collective capabilities, we recognized new opportunities to advance affordable, equitable, safe and healthy homes for all Californians.
Building Our Future Working Groups and the Innovators Network: 2022 Action Report
Our 2022 began with Building Our Future, a 100-person virtual gathering that sparked working groups to experience collaboration with one another. The year ended with the three-day Housing System Innovators Network kickoff, where Network members began designing several initiatives that they, with our assistance, are advancing in 2023 to turn innovative ideas into concrete action to make the regenerative California housing ecosystem, and the 21st century California dream, reality.
Leveraging the Potential of California’s Housing System: 2021 Action Report
In 2021, we set out to explore the potential of bringing passionate individuals across California’s housing system together. By creating space for them to collaborate, we believe that we can start to build the future we all want to see: one where homes are affordable to everyone, natural ecosystems and the built environment support each other, and communities have the resources to dictate their own growth and development. See how this approach guided our activities in 2021 and encouraged us to embrace our new role as an organization that connects.
