Topic: Passive Solar Architecture

Description:

Passive solar design is the most effective, healthiest and lowest-cost method to provide thermal comfort in any climate. We'll introduce you to the physics of passive solar design, its historical use in a variety of climates, and show you modern examples focusing on Northern California climates. You are welcome to bring your own projects for an interactive discussion.

Greg VanMechelen is an architect with more than 20 years of experience in a variety of environmentally-considered building techniques. He has designed numerous projects utilizing passive solar design, and projects using alternative materials, including the first strawbale school in California. He has also worked with clients with severe environmental sensitivities. Mr. VanMechelen serves on the National Board of Architects/ Designers/ Planners for Social Responsibility (ADPSR), and a founding member of the California Straw Building Association (CASBA).
