GreenPoint Rated: Advisor & Rater Training & Exams:

Monday October 18 , 8:00am - 5:00pm - training all day
 

Tuesday October 19, 8:00am – 5:00 pm
Practice exercises and exams to prepare for the Plan Check Exam on Friday.

Wednesday October 20, 8:00am – 5:00pm
Concludes with two open-book written exams.  (1) GreenPoint Rated Program, Policies and Procedures.  (2) Plan Check exam.  You will need to know how to read blueprints to complete it.

Saturday, October 23, 8:30am - 12pm
FIELD EXAM: The Saturday session is devoted to the field verification at a development/construction site *Please be on time. Late arrivals will not be able to take the exam.
 

PRIOR TO THE TRAINING - PRE-STUDY

Pre-study of the training manuals is highly recommended prior to attending the training. The course is fast paced and covers a lot of material, pre-study will assist you in preparing for the exams.  Your pre-study materials will be sent in a separate email before the training.  Should you not receive them, please email Training@BuildItGreen.org.

Raters and Advisors also must complete an application in order to be instated. Please bring copies of your credentials to the training where you will receive the applicaiton.  Review the eligibility requirements to learn more about Advisor & Rater roles.

Bring to the Training:

 

  • Writing instruments, highlighter.

  • A refillable water bottle or drink container, to limit disposable water bottle use.

  • Calculator

  • BUSINESS CARDS, about 100, in order to network with other attendees.

  • Copies of Licenses and Certifications required for the Rater Application.

  • For the Plan Check Exam (Friday): we recommend that you bring a magnifying glass to review the half-size plans.

  • For the Field Exam (Saturday): bring sturdy closed-toe shoes, a hardhat, measuring tape, and waterproof jacket. No other tools are required.

Course Description

In this course, you will learn:

 

  • The objectives of GreenPoint Rated - EH program
  • Verification of the GreenPoint Rated - EH measures
  • How to perform ratings for both Whole House and Elements
  • GreenPoint Rated - EH Program Policies and Procedures
  • Health and other required safety measures
  • Energy consumption requirements
  • Energy software demonstration
  • Services and resources available from Build It Green

At the end of this course, you should be able to demonstrate how to:

  • Talk with homeowners about the benefits of having their homes rated
  • Work with the homeowner
  • Compare this program to other rating systems and relevant programs
  • Complete an Energy Consumption Take-Off
  • Understand the usage of the energy software
  • Rate or Advise to design/build an existing home, step-by-step
  • Work with Build It Green during the rating process

Eligibility Requirements

The GreenPoint Rated: Advisor and Rater Existing Home training is open to GreenPoint Rated: Advisors or Raters (New Home) who are interested in adding green ratings and advising for existing homes to their portfolio of services.
 

Eligibility for GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Advisor

To earn GreenPoint Advisor - Existing Home certification, you need to complete the GreenPoint Rated: Advisor or Rater application for Existing Homes and meet each the following requirements:

  1. Be a current Certified GreenPoint Rater in good standing
  2. Provide documentation of at least ONE credential showing building or home performance experience - listed on our GreenPoint Rated Eligibility Page - READ MORE

Eligibility for GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Rater

In addition to completion of the Certified GreenPoint Rater New Home training, Raters attending the Existing Home training must have prior experience with home performance testing and building science, as well as working knowledge of construction and experience with vintage features.
 
To earn GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Rater certification, you need to complete the GreenPoint Rated: Advisor or Rater application for Existing Homes and meet ALL of the following requirements:
  1. Be a current Certified GreenPoint Rater in good standing
  2. Provide documentation of at least ONE credential showing building or home performance experience - listed on our GreenPoint Rated Eligibility Page - READ MORE
Certification for both GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Rater and Advisor designations are valid for two years, at which time Recertification is required to keep certification current. 
 

Petition for Participation

For students who do not have one of the prerequisite credentials listed on our GreenPoint Rated Eligibility Page, we of\\\\\\\\\\\fer a petition option.  A petition is a written explanation and documentation of how the student has the equivilent of 4 years mastery level experience in new home construction or existing home retrofit and remodel. Beverages will be available throughout the day. Continental breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided, courtesy of the event host.

Please plan to arrive 15 to 30 minutes early so that we can begin the course promptly

The Energy Resource Center is located approximately 20 miles east of Los Angeles at the center of the Los Angeles/Orange County Metropolitan area.

Build It Green is now proud to offer Early Bird Discount (EBD) registration to our professional training events in 2010!  Members will receive $100 off / Non-Members receive $50 off when registering for an event up to 30-days ahead of the training start date. The reduction in fee is automatically deducted upon registration (members, log in).
 
CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY
  • Registrants may use 100% of paid fees if rescheduling to another training no less than eight days before the training.
  • Registrants may received 100% refund if cancellation is requested no less than eight days before the training.
  • Registrants may receive a 50% refund if cancellation is requested less than eight days before the training.
  • Registrants will be charged $100.00 late registration fee if rescheduling less than eight days before the training.
  • Registrants will be charged a $200.00 no call/no show fee.
