Building Professional Directory

Are you considering remodeling or building a green home—one that is healthy, energy- and resource-efficient? Hiring green building professionals to design and construct your green home can help ensure your green priorities are achieved.

To locate green building professionals, contact a local green building program for a list of participants or training program graduates. Note that membership or certification with a green building program does not guarantee green building expertise or general professionalism. It is always good practice to interview a number of professionals and thoroughly check past work, credentials and references carefully. Read on to get started.

Residential

Certified Green Building Professionals

Professionals listed as Certified Green Building Professionals (CGBPs) have completed an in-depth training course in how to apply green building principles to residential projects. The certification program is administered by Build It Green and is open to all California building professionals (architects, contractors, engineers, interior designers, real estate professionals, solar contractors, etc.) Those who complete the course and pass the final exam are then recognized as Certified Green Building Professionals, and continuing education credits are required to keep certification current.

Commercial

LEED Accredited Professionals have passed an exam that tests understanding of green building practices and principles and how they apply to the LEED Green Building Rating System. The test ensures that a candidate has the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in the LEED design process and streamline the application and certification process. These professionals are more likely to be involved in the design and construction of large commercial and institutional buildings than residential buildings.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, a program developed and managed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
