Topic:  Successful Stormwater Management to Enhance Life

Description: 
This presentation will focus on how you can take effective strategies to manage stormwater and put them into practice in your business or home. These strategies not only benefit the property in preventing erosion, they also promote healthy ecosystems onsite and off. Learn how these techniques can help to grow food or ornamental plants as well as benefitting our local salmon populations. This session will be interactive and engaging to empower participants to put these techniques to work.\

Biography

Damien McAnany – Landscape Contractor & Permaculture Designer, Abundant Earth Landscaping & Tree Care


Damien is a Certified Permaculture Designer, Ecological Landscaper and an educator.  Damien’s unique approach includes extensive use of rainwater harvesting earthworks, a focus on food producing plants, and the functional ecological relationships between elements in the landscape. Damien is a Certified Arborist and has taught ecological restoration.  In 2010 he worked with the Jordan Valley Permaculture Project, a demonstration food forest project to aid Palestinian Refugees, where he was helping to design and implement low cost, effective strategies for rainwater harvesting and tree management. He volunteers with the North Bay Institute of Green Technology who are working to educate youth with barriers to employment in green professions. He has been studying and working with Permaculture since 2004.
 
Mike Stokes – Owner, Lush Planet Design Build
Mike is a builder, designer, and lecturer committed to restorative housing.  Restorative construction and renovation, takes the long-term approach to "sustainability."  Inspired by William McDonough’s work to “not just do less harm, but rather to enhance life with our home building choices”.  Mike has over 20 years experience in the "sustainable" construction field. He has worked to make homes more sustainable with various large organizations and scores of small-scale additions and remodels in West Sonoma County, and with Codding Enterprises on the Sonoma Mountain Village Project. Mike is trained as a lecturer and published author including topics such as passive house, permaculture design and The Natural Success Method..
