Description:

David Rain Ortiz of AP Rainwater Harvesting & Graywater Gardens will talk about practical solutions for rainwater catchment and diversion, graywater reuse, rain gardens, and swale techniques, giving you a hands-on look at integrated systems that recycle and access new sources of water.

He'll also cover technologies like atmospheric water generation and ultra-filtration devices that purify drinking water. Learn how to diversify your water sources and save money on bills while helping to replenish our water table.

Speaker Information:

As the co-founder of AP Rainwater Harvesting & Graywater Gardens, David Ortiz has been able to take a advantage of his 20-year career in the building trades and apply water sustainability technologies that solidly define the new best business practices. He is a Quality Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) qualified instructor and a pioneer in the movement to address the needs of local communities through innovative rainwater harvesting and graywater garden systems. He reports to the International Indian Water Working Group (IIWWG) and helped plan the first Indian Tribal Water Summit with the CA Dept. of Water Resources (DWR). He is an active participant at the Sonoma County Water Coalition and a stakeholder in the State Housing and Community Development Department (HCD) Graywater Code Summit 2009 and contributed to the final version of Chapter 16 (California graywater code).

He was a contributor to the Building Standard Commission’s most recent dual plumbing system meetings. He is also a contributor to the Sonoma County Department of Agriculture’s official rain harvesting manual and helped to edit and write the “Tribal Water Stories”. He currently spearheads the advancement of green technologies on native lands and is an experienced educator and storyteller who brings Native American tales to life in combination with traditional music to inspire and teach water conservation, land stewardship and respect for nature’s ways to children, community groups, businesses and schools.
