Build It Green Announces Partnership With National Association of REALTORS®

Jan. 24, 2014

Build It Green (BIG) is proud to announce a partnership with the National Association of REALTORS® to deliver new and FREE trainings to help real estate professionals earn NAR’s Green Designation and become their clients’ go-to resource for buying or selling a green home.

BIG Committed to Helping Real Estate Professionals
BIG is committed to supporting and educating real estate agents across California about green building opportunities. Buying or selling an existing home is a great time for people to perform energy efficiency upgrades, and real estate agents can serve as a trusted advisor to their clients – making them aware of potential upgrades, and the state rebates, incentives and financing necessary to achieve them.

BIG will be offering the NAR Green Designation trainings across California in 2014. Thx to generous support from The Energy Network, BIG is able to waive the fees for all trainings in the Southern California region. View our Event Calendar for training dates in February, March, April, and October 2014, in Rancho Cucamonga and Laguna Hills. Stay tuned for Northern California dates and locations.

About the NAR Green Designation
The Green Designation is the most recognizable national green certification for real estate professionals. BIG’s latest trainings combine NAR’s high-quality national curriculum with our own California-specific curriculum on the state’s rebates, financing, and green home certifications.

Real estate professionals who earn this certification can learn how to become a trusted advisor to their clients on green real estate. That means helping them find a fixer-upper and transforming it into a more comfortable home with lower utility and maintenance costs, or making the right upgrades before a sale to boost its value. Trainings also cover how to market green and grow a business to attract new customers.

To earn the NAR Green Designation, professionals must complete 18 hours of training over three courses and pass an exam for each. Click to view the full course descriptions for each.

Demand for Green Homes Is Growing
Green real estate is not a fad, but a fundamental change in the market. Nearly 40% of home buyers consider high-efficiency heating and cooling features to be "very important," and two-thirds of state governments have currently implemented green building policies. Furthermore, a 2012 study found that green certified homes – with labels such as Energy Star or GreenPoint Rated – sold for up to 9% more than homes without a green label.

People have different motivations for going green: some want to reduce their impact on the environment, others want to save money, reduce waste, or create a healthier home for their children. Our trainings will provide you with the education to support your clients' green endeavors no matter their objective.

Important Note for Certified Green Real Estate Professionals
BIG’s partnership with NAR represents the next evolution of the trainings and certification we created with the Certified Green Real Estate Professional (CGREP) offering. If you currently hold Build It Green’s CGREP certification, the Green Designation will offer you the next level of training, with invaluable information on marketing green homes and building your business.

To earn the NAR Green Designation, CGREP-certified professionals do not need to take the first of three NAR courses—they can begin at Green 200 and then complete Green 300 to achieve the Designation.

We will continue to honor your certification through Dec. 1, 2014. For those interested in continuing to promote that designation after 2014, BIG will allow individuals to pay a modest annual fee to maintain the designation and BIG’s professional directory listing associated with the CGREP certification. We will send CGREPs separate email reminders about the steps necessary to do this.
