Recertification for GreenPoint Rated New and/or Existing Home Advisors & Raters

POLICIES

All GreenPoint Rated participants must comply with recertification criteria to maintain certification status.  Recertification allows Build It Green to ensure that GreenPoint Rated Advisors and Raters are certified responsibly and fulfill the role consumers and Build It Green have entrusted to them.

Recertification is required every two years.  The GreenPoint Rated certifications are valid for two years from issuance of the certification or recertification date. There is no longer a 90 day grace period in order to recertify.

Recertification Applications must be received by the certification expiration date found at the bottom of your Directory listing (only visible when editing your listing).

Professionals who achieve more than one GreenPoint Rated credential can review the protocols on combining multiple certifications by visiting the Expiry Dates information page. The expiration date found in your Directory listing will reflect your most recent certification. You will only need to submit one Recertification Application and $75 payment every two years for all your CGBP and GreenPoint Rated credentials.
 

Recertification Requirements

New and Existing Home Raters

To renew your certification status, you need to:
  • If you are a New Home Rater, you must have on file with GreenPoint Rated two New Home ratings, processed or in progress, within your two year certification period or complete an online New Home Rater Exam and score 80% or higher.
  • If you are an Existing Home Rater, you must have on file with GreenPoint Rated two Existing Home Ratings, processed or in progress, within your two year certification period or complete an online Existing Home Rater Exam and score 80% or higher. Existing Home Raters do not need to complete the Exam/Home Rating requirement for a New Home Rater.
  • Successfully complete 16 approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in the green building and/or residential construction fields. The CEUs count towards all CGBP and GreenPoint Rated credentials.
  • Comply with the GreenPoint Rater Code of Conduct.

New and Existing Home Advisors

To renew your certification status, you need to:
  • Successfully complete 16 approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in the green building and/or residential construction fields. The CEUs count towards all CGBP and GreenPoint Rated credentials.
  • If you are a Rater and have not conducted 2 GreenPoint Ratings nor taken the Recertification Exam, you will automatically be granted the Advisor status for the next 2 years if you complete the 16 CEUs requirement.
  • If you need additional time beyond your expiration date to complete the above requirements, you may petition for an extension.  To learn more about extensions,    go here.

HOW TO APPLY, PAY and/or TAKE EXAM

Ongoing - Manage your CEUs:
 
From the first day that you are certified, you can start tracking CEUs achieved in or out of Build It Green coursework.  You can choose the following options to monitor both or request the addition of a course to the approved CEU list.
(1)   Complete the online recertification application

(2)   Mail/Email/Fax your proof of attendance to Non-Build It Green courses (this can be attached during online submittal of the application)

(3)  Submit the $75 application fee (and exam as needed) using one of the following options:
 
a.   BIG Recert EH/NH Rater; Payment+RATINGS #RR000010A
Select this payment option if you are an Existing Home Rater and/or New Home Rater (With or Without CGBP recertification) wishing to recertify as a Rater for one or both certifications by having submitted to Build It Green two home ratings (completed or in progress).


b.  BIG Recert NH and/or EH ADVISOR; Payment #AR000010A
Select this payment option if you are an Existing Home Advisor and/or New Home Advisor (With or Without CGBP recertification) wishing to recertify as a Advisor for one or both certifications.


c.  BIG Recert EH Rater; Payment + Exam #ER000010A 
Select this payment and exam option if you are a GreenPoint Rated EXISTING HOME Rater (as well as a New Home Rater) who is recertifying for both and choosing the exam test out option. (With or Without CGBP recertification)


d.  BIG Recert NH Rater; Payment + Exam #GR000010A  
Select this payment and exam option if you are a GreenPoint Rated NEW HOME Rater who is recertifying as a New Home Rater and choosing the exam test out option. (With or Without CGBP recertification)
 

PENALTIES or PETITION FOR EXTENSION


If the above requirements are not met and no temporary extension is awarded, you will become inactive and your Directory Listing on our website will no longer be visible.  For Raters, any project submitted after you become inactive will be ineligible for a project certificate. If you want to reinstate your New Home Rater/Advisor certifications, you will be asked to do one or more of the following:
 
(a)   Attend a Build It Green Advanced training course
(b)   Petition for an Extension of 4 - 12 months (maintain your Certification until completing the CEUS
(c)   Pay the penalty fee for an already lapsed certification with-in one year (same as b)
(d)   Retake and pass the Policy, Plan and Field GreenPoint Rated exams. (call 510-590-3360 x603)
 
For Existing Home Raters/Advisors you will need to retake the appropriate exam.  Read more about Penalties & Fees.
