Building Industry Association of Central California Endorses GreenPoint Rated
The Building Industry Association of Central California (BIACC) Board of Directors voted unanimously to recommend the GreenPoint Rated System as the model program for voluntary green building policies.
The Board reached this conclusion after the BIACC Green Building Task Force reviewed several programs currently available to homebuilders. BIACC Executive Vice President, Stephen Madison, cited third party verification of compliance from a credible source, accessibility and the cost-effectiveness of the program as significant reasons for their group endorsing GreenPoint Rated.
“The recognition that the program is already being used throughout California and is the dominant program being used by Bay Area government jurisdictions was an important consideration in our decision. An equally important factor was the availability of training for both members and jurisdictions that adopt the program.”
The BIACC has pledged to promote voluntary adoption of GreenPoint Rated by local governments in their service area as well as actively promoting the program to their members. The BIACC’s service territory includes Stanislaus, Merced, Mariposa and Tuolumne counties.
Build It Green’s Green Building Guidelines and/or GreenPoint Rated Program are referenced by 70 local government policies and have earned endorsements from the California Energy Commission, the Association of Bay Area Governments, and the Home Builders Association of Northern California.
GreenPoint Rated is a program of Build It Green, a professional non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote healthy, energy- and resource-efficient buildings in California. A GreenPoint Rated home is graded on five categories—Energy Efficiency, Resource Conservation, Indoor Air Quality, Water Conservation and Community. A Certified GreenPoint Rater evaluates a home's green features allowing them to be compared on a level playing field. GreenPoint Rated rewards building professionals and homeowners who create green homes by allowing them to brand their products with a recognizable, trustworthy seal of approval.
