Build It Green Grant Report

Build It Green has been awarded a $50,000 grant from SV2. SV2 is a donor network that leverages its financial, intellectual, and human capital to make a meaningful, measurable impact in Silicon Valley and the Bay Area. SV2 does this by strengthening the organizational capacity of its grantees and the philanthropic capacity of its Partners.

SV2 aims to make a local impact through building the capacity of nonprofit organizations both through giving money and giving time, a concept known as “Venture Philanthropy”. At the same time, it supports Partners in deepening their knowledge of issues facing Silicon Valley and building their understanding of the array of organizations addressing those issues.

SV2 funding will be used in combination with funds from other grantors to develop a comprehensive web-based program tracking and administrative system to serve Build It Green’s GreenPoint Rated and Professional Training programs. The tracking system will be partially funded by a Grant from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and will also utilize grant funding from Green Building in Alameda County.

A key component of the tracking system will be to track and report environmental benefits attributable to GreenPoint Rated and LEED homes, including avoided greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy efficiency, water conservation, resource conservation, and solid waste reduction. The system will incorporate Stopwaste.Org’s Climate Calculator algorithms for documenting the reduction in GHG emissions from green building measures. Stopwaste.org has invested approximately $50,000 to develop these algorithms with input from ICLEI, California Climate Action Registry, California Air Resources Board, California Energy Commission, and other key stakeholders to ensure consistency with broader climate change policies and initiatives.

Build It Green thanks SV2, BAAQMD, and Green Building in Alameda County for their generous support of this vital project.
