Chapter and meeting information
Build It Green currently supports four Guilds in the San Francisco Bay Area:
Each chapter meets monthly, and affiliates are welcome to attend meetings in any region regardless of their place of work.
Green Building Professionals Guilds are administered and implemented by Build It Green, and rely on available funding and staff resources. We are currently only able to support four regional Guilds. If you are interested in having a Guild in other regions in California, you are welcome to contact Annette@BuildItGreen to begin a dialogue. We will, however, not be able to organize a new Guild chapter until new funding and staff resources come available. Build It Green cannot support, or sanction with the Build It Green name, independently organized guilds, though you may apply for independent meetings to qualify for Certified Green Building Professional CEUs.

Topic: Sustainable Landscaping Practices
Speaker: Chip Krug, Turner Fine Gardens
Chip Krug, principal designer at Turner Fine Gardens, has enjoyed a life-long interest in plants, gardening, environmental issues and design. Beginning his professional career in 1989 as a solo gardener, his business eventually developed into a full service design, installation and maintenance firm, focusing on the high-end residential market. Recently he has re-focused exclusively on design, consultation and education, while still allowing his work to be primarily informed by the gardener’s sensibility, emphasizing the long view and practical concerns of maintenance. Whether choosing the material for your deck or the tree for your front garden, these factors, if pondered seriously, naturally lead toward a course of sustainability.
Topic Description: Landscaping is an important component of green building, impacting the realms water conservation, waste reduction, protection from erosion and compaction, integrating living soil into the site, and even energy conservation. These themes and more will be addressed by Chip Krup of Turner Fine Gardens, whose sustainable design habits permeate all aspects of his business.

Topic: Rammed Earth Building
Speaker: David Easton, Rammed Earth Works
David Easton is an innovator, author, and advocate for building with earth. Since his first exposure to rammed earth in the 1970's, he has worked to improve both the technology and the credibility for this ancient building system. His books have been read and applied to projects around the world, both simple and sophisticated. The means and methods he has evolved have allowed raw earth to become an accepted and appreciated modern building material.
Topic Description: David's presentation, "Earth is the New Wood", briefly reviews the history of rammed earth construction, before delving into the modern methods that are allowing it to aspire to be one of the most sustainable and logical of all green building solutions.
