Volunteer Opportunities
Interested in volunteering for a Green Home Tour? There are many ways to help! Several volunteers are needed to staff each home on Tour Day, and we require approximately 75-100 volunteers for each Home Tour. Benefits include:
- Free Tour Guidebook and Home Tour t-shirt

- Networking opportunities with building professionals
- A half day free to visit homes (volunteer shifts are 4.5 hours in the morning or afternoon)

Volunteer responsibilities
Green Home Tour
- Assist homeowners in preparing for tour guests (setup registration table, signage etc.)
- Greet tour participants and verify that every participant has a Tour Guidebook
- Ensure that participants remove shoes or wear provided booties
- Facilitate the flow of traffic in the home
- Refrain guests from entering identified off limits areas
- Assist homeowners with answering questions about green building features (for those volunteers knowledgeable in green building)
- Assist homeowners with closing (removing signs, packing up supplies etc.)
- Additionally, there are opportunities for a few weeks both before and after the tour to help in our office with administrative tasks associated with the tour.
Participation criteria
- Enjoy educating and interacting with the public
- Have some basic green building knowledge
- Be able to commit to a 4.5 hour shift (9AM-1:30PM or 1PM-5:30PM)
- Attend the mandatory Volunteer-Homeowner Orientation Meeting (approximately 1 week before the tour)
- Be at least 16 years old or accompanied by a parent or guardian

We'll do our best to match you with the shift and location of your choice.
Volunteer orientation
The mandatory Volunteer-Homeowner Orientation Meeting will be approximately 1 week before the tour. Dinner will be provided and allow you the opportunity to pick up your goodie bag and meet the homeowners, architects and builders of the green homes!
Volunteers will receive a volunteer orientation packet at the Orientation Meeting that includes details about their volunteer responsibilities, house assignments and homeowner contact information. They will also receive their Build It Green Home Tour T-shirt (which must be worn on tour day) and free Tour Guidebook for admittance to the tour.

Pre-Tour/Post-Tour volunteer opportunities
We are always looking for volunteers to help out at our office in
Berkeley, especially right before and after Green Home Tours. Typical
Green Home Tour office volunteer tasks include:
- Guidebook mailing
- Sorting materials and supplies
- Evaluating participant surveys
- Data entry
