Build It Green is offering two Green Home Tours in 2008:

  • Fall 2008 – South Bay (Sunday, September 28, 2008, San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties)

To Go on Tour

To attend an upcoming tour, participants purchase a Tour Guidebook and choose which of the homes they wish to see. Participants are free to visit any number of homes in any order they choose from 10AM to 5PM on Green Home Tour day. Every participant (over the age of 16) requires a Tour Guidebook, which costs $30 per person or $50 for two people and acts as the admission ticket. Each person will be asked to show their guidebook upon entering every home.

Tour tips

Follow these helpful tips to get the most out of the Green Home Tour:

  • Review the Tour Guidebook prior to tour day and identify the homes you would like to visit. Selecting four to six homes will offer you an opportunity to learn more about each project and not feel rushed. The tour is self-guided to allow you the freedom to
    see the green features you want and to spend as much time as you need
    learning from the experts.
  • The map included in the Tour Guidebook will not provide sufficient detail to get you from home to home. We suggest printing local maps or bringing a local city map with you.
  • Wear comfortable shoes that are easy to remove as you will be asked to remove shoes or wear provided shoe booties upon entering the homes.

Do’s and don’ts

Do not visit homes before or after tour hours. Tours open at 10:00AM and close at 5:00PM. Please be respectful the homeowners and professionals who have agreed to open their homes for the day.

Do bring your Tour Guidebook everywhere. You will be asked to show it upon entering each home. (Children under 16 do not need a guidebook.)

Do not block driveways or double-park. Please respect other tour participants, neighbors, and the community. Keep an eye out for special parking instructions.

Do remove shoes upon entering each home, or wear provided shoe booties.

Do practice common courtesy:

  • Do not smoke, eat or drink inside the home
  • Supervise children closely (no strollers please)
  • Do not use private bathrooms
  • Leave pets at home
  • Do not touch or handle items in the homes
  • Stay within designated areas of the house
  • Do respect and thank the tour hosts

  • Picked up at select Will Call locations on the day of the Home Tour.

Guidebooks are on sale now. Purchase a guidebook for the East Bay Green Home Tour on June 1, 2008.
