Exciting developments are in the works for multifamily green refinancing! Find out how you can benefit from new funding opportunities to improve your project’s energy and resource efficiency and the health of your occupants.

Announced May of 2011, US Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and Fannie Mae jointly launched Green Refinance Plus, a product enhancement to the existing Risk Sharing program, to provide extra funding for energy and water efficiency upgrades and other property improvements. Instead of a conventional Physical Needs Assessment, the property owner will be required to obtain a Green Physical Needs Assessment which will identify needed renovations to the property, energy efficiency measures and water-efficiency improvements.

Chrissa Pagitsas, Fannie Mae Multifamily Green Initiative Program Manager will give an overview of Green Refinance Plus and the Multifamily Green Initiative. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback about your experience in the California market with meeting green standards and obtaining multifamily financing.

Topic: Zero Net Water: Integrated Water Resource Planning Case Study

Description:

With the focus on the challenges faced by limitations and restrictions in the availability of water for project needs, the solution is to develop integrated water resources, including analyzing watershed placement, low impact development (LID) responses to watershed placement and runoff, retention that encourages the infiltration of water to reduce irrigation requirements, retention and cistern responses to provide additional sources of water capture, use of graywater and subsurface irrigation systems.

In addition, we can begin to design for the inevitable future availability of recycled water, use of other non-potable water sources, development of decentralized recycled water to meet immediate needs, and design and installation of hierarchies of water sources to minimize use of potable sources. Full applications can even approach Zero Net Water on some sites. On the practical side, also covered will be specific technical equipment and meeting filtration, pressure and flow requirements with integrated design techniques.

It is recommended for key staff members of contractors that are currently submitting projects to the program. The course focuses on supplementary combustion appliance safety protocols that augment those specified by BPI. It also provides training on proper duct testing techniques, which are not covered by BPI-certified professional training, and program installation specifications.

Description: In 2004 the Environmental Building News alerted the building community to health and environmental concerns about Halogenated Flame Retardants incorporated into many plastics used in the buildings. While some of these chemicals have been phased out, many are still in production and used widely in furniture and building products.

In this talk, our presenters will review the science and outline the current use of these chemicals in building products. In addition, they will discuss alternative products and construction details that do not rely on Halogenated Flame Retardants.

This course provides essential training for contractors who wish to offer Energy Upgrade California rebates to their clients who receive Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) gas or electric service. It is a required course if you do not already have a BPI Building Analyst on staff and it is strongly recommended even if you do.

In this three-day course, you will learn fundamentals of building science and gain practical experience with core measures in the Energy Upgrade California program, including;

How to find air leaks in the building shell and properly seal them
How to insulate the attic plane
How to test forced air duct systems and building shells to program standards
Combustion appliance safety testing practices
Essential components of PG&E's Energy Upgrade California program
How program measures fit with HERS, HERS II, BPI, and other certifications and utility programs

Course time is evenly split between the classroom and the demonstration house at PG&E's Stockton Training Center.

This course introduces you to all GreenPoint Rated systems and includes basic policies and procedures, program requirements, verifications of select measures, and the differing roles of advisors and raters. GreenPoint Rated Core is a pre-requisite for most of our other GreenPoint Rated trainings and starts you on the path to becoming a GreenPoint Rater or Advisor. Read full course description.

Triple Training Series: This course is being offered as a pre-requisite for the GreenPoint Rated Existing Home Single Family training in Downey, CA on Mar. 26-27, 2012. The training series starts with Certified Green Building Professional training on Mar. 20-21, for those who have not yet met the Green Building Education requirement for GreenPoint Rated certification. A limited number of scholarships are available for qualifying building professionals in LA County! Apply to one or all trainings using the button below.
