Biography

Jonathan Austin has a 25-year background in multifamily housing finance and economic development.  He has been involved with the development of over 1,400 units of affordable housing and about 30,000 square feet of commercial space.  He has worked for the housing development departments of the cities of Oakland and Fremont, and four non-profit organizations that develop affordable housing and commercial space. For over 10 years he ran his own consulting firm and managed affordable housing and homeless shelter projects in the Bay Area.   His involvement in green building was catalyzed through his development consulting work on the Crossroads Transitional Housing Shelter, one of the first green shelters in the U.S.  He holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Planning from San Jose State University.  He has worked with Build It Green since 2013.
