Join Build It Green to explore the ins and outs of Green Building Materials! Our speakers will provide you with an in-depth look at the green materials landscape, practical building advice, and share their experiences and lessons learned. Food is provided.

Topics covered include:

  • Best practices for selecting and using green materials
  • Funny, sad, and useful stories from the "green trenches"
  • Green material markets in CA and the US
  • Up-and-coming green products and emerging trends
  • Updated green building codes and standards that will impact green material decisions
  • Developments in green product evaluation and labeling

Registration:  Pre-registration on our website is encouraged and incentivized and is available until 2:30pm on Tuesday, July 2nd. When preregistering online, folks may pay by credit card. We accept credit card payments at the door as well.

Cancellation Policy:  No refunds will be given for cancellations or no-shows due to our limited venue capacity. Registered attendees can transfer their credit to another colleague (i.e. go in their place) for the same Workshop - not for another Workshop.

Speaker Wes Sullens, StopWaste & Bruce King, Professional Engineer

Biography

   Wes Sullens
 

Wes Sullens is a Program Manager in the Green Building group at StopWaste of Alameda County, one of the most influential local government environmental agencies in the nation. Wes supports municipal and commercial green building policies in Alameda County, with a focus on green building materials, codes and rating systems. He is a technical expert in the recycling industry, and has advocated for robust recycling measures in GreenPoint Rated, LEED, the California Green Building Standards Code, and ASHRAE Standard 189.1 for High Performance Green Buildings. Wes is a LEED-AP (BD+C) since 2002, a member of the LEED Materials & Resources Technical Advisory Group, and sits on the ASHRAE Standard 189.1 committee.


   Bruce King
 

Bruce King is a registered engineer with 35 years of worldwide experience in structural engineering and construction.  He is the founder of the Ecological Building Network, and the author of  Buildings of Earth and Straw, Making Better Concrete, Design of Straw Bale Buildings, international earthen building standards, and dozens of papers and articles for conferences and journals. He has organized three international conferences on ecological building, organized and completed quarter-million dollar testing programs for alternative building, and speaks to professional groups and universities all over the world.  He also raises chickens and children.
