Orientation Events for Free Training Series for Under- and Un-employed Building Professionals

Do you want a career in home performance or green building? We’re offering two training series to help get you started. If you’re interested in green building, you take the first two courses. If you want to add home performance to your service offerings, and you have at least two years construction experience, you take the full series.  See below for course details.  Both series are free for qualifying professionals, but you must attend one of two orientation sessions to qualify.

Steps to qualify:
1)  Meet the Eligibility Requirements
2)  Attend an orientation event (register below)
3)  Bring documentation to orientation
4)  Talk to a case manager at the orientation who will help you register
To be eligible for financial assistance for the upcoming green home construction trainings you must meet the following requirements:
  • Be eligible to work in the US
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Have 2 years of construction experience
  • Males born after December 1, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service or be declared exempt from registration.
  • Note:  Additional requirements related to unemployment and dislocated worker status may be discussed at the orientation session.
To qualify, you must bring the following items to the orientation:
  • Social Security Card
  • Unexpired Drivers License or Green Card
  • Last paycheck (if still employed, to determine hourly wage)
  • Lay off notice from previous employer or Notice of Unemployment
  • Benefits (what does this mean?)
  • Based on your age at application, the eligibility team member will verify Selective Service registration online

Course Descriptions

Certified Green Building Professional (CGBP)
September 6 - 7| Oakland
This 2-day course introduces the main principles of green building and the systems approach to the design, construction and operation of buildings. It provides an understanding of energy efficiency, resource conservation, water conservation, and indoor air quality, and how to effectively convey the importance of these principles and market your business to homeowners.
Understanding the Whole House Approach (Advanced CGBP)
September 8 - 9| Oakland
This advanced course takes CGBP to the next level by teaching you how to take a whole-house approach and perform a comprehensive green home analysis. Learn to help homeowners determine whether their home is a good candidate for an energy or green upgrade, and take advantage of incentives provided by local utilities. This course prepares trainees for future BPI or Home Performance trainings.
Home Performance with Energy Star Training at CBPCA
Our core training at CBPCA is Home Performance with Energy Star (HPwES) and BPI Certification. Composed of Levels I,II, III and IV, these trainings will prepare you to incorporatewhole house energy efficiency and performance testing, evaluation and contracting into your business. You may decide to get your BPI certification and become part of the workforce qualified to participate in utility rebate and incentive programs.
September 14 – October 14 | Oakland
Level 1:Introduction to Home Performance: the fundamentals of Home Performance
Level 2: Introduction to Field Testing: Students will be exposed to and work with Home Performance equipment such as Blower Door, Duct Blaster, and Infrared Camera testing.
Level 3:Building Performance Institute (BPI) Technical Standards Review and On-line Test:
Level 4: BPI Field Practice and Training: Level IV is a three day course in a test house.
