Topic:  Overview of Mechanical Ventilation and the 2008 Energy Code
 
Description: Continuous mechanical ventilation for outdoor air supply is now a mandatory feature in all new CA homes, and is also an important tool for home performance contractors. This short presentation summarizes the minimum code requirements, describes best practices for residential ventilation, and provides basic guidance on how to select mechanical ventilation systems.

Speaker Judy Roberson

Judy Roberson is a residential building scientist and ventilation consultant at PG&E's Energy Training Center in Stockton. She earned a M.S. in Architecture from UC Berkeley with a thesis on ASHRAE's residential ventilation Standard 62.2. While a Research Associate at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), she supported Energy Star energy efficiency programs, including new and existing homes. Judy learned building design and construction in Wisconsin, where she worked as an apprentice carpenter on multifamily housing projects, architectural drafter for a residential design-build firm, and apprentice architect on passive solar residential and small commercial projects. She has B.S. and M.S. degrees from Texas A&M University.
