Event Description

Get BPI: Building Analyst certified and take advantage of the Energy Retrofit Revolution!

 

Recent ARRA funding is being channeled to fund retrofit rebates for thousands and thousands of homes throughout California.  Most of these programs require BPI certification to participate.

Course Dates:**
Session I: Days - Monday through Wednesday, November 8-10  8:00AM - 5:00PM
Session II: Days - Monday through Wednesday, December 13-15  8:00AM - 5:00PM
You only need to register for this event once to be enrolled in both sessions
 
PREREQUISITES:
In order to attend the Build It Green's Building Analyst Training, we require completion of the Participation Application. To review the prerequisites and recommendations for prestudy, please visit here.

EXAM:
This course includes the BPI written test fees.  The field exam has an additional fee that can be paid at the time it is scheduled.  When prepared, contact training@builditgreen.org to schedule.

Pre-Registraion for this event is required.  Please arrive 15-30 minutes early to allow time to check-in at registration.

Agenda:

Participants attend a two part, six-day training course to prepare them to take the nationally recognized BPI: Building Analyst written test.  The foundation principles of building science and diagnostic testing are taught in this content filled course.  On the sixth day of training we will proctor the written BPI test for you.
Typical course content includes:
  • Building Science fundamentals
  • Home Performance basics
  • Successful communication with Homeowners
  • Physical inspection methodology for assessing property site
  • Combustion Safety and Appliance inspection
  • How to identify and control air leakage
  • Ventilation strategies and Moisture Control
  • Insulation Assessment procedures
  • HVAC system designs and recommendations
  • Water consumption and conservation evaluation
  • Services and resources available from Build It Green   (see above)

Comments

Certifying Agency

Build It Green, as an Affiliate of the Building Performance Institute, will administer and proctor the written test.  BPI is the official certifying body for all BPI certifications.  As an official Affiliate, Build It Green is responsible for class logistics, delivery of training content, management of instructors, marketing, written quizzes and examinations, processing certification applications, maintenance of the Building Analyst roster, quality control of Certified Building Analysts, and communication to Building Analysts regarding recertification requirements

Biography

Kevin is the in-house Trainer at Build It Green.  Prior to joining Build It Green, Kevin was a trainer for all of the Advanced CGBP Trainings and a Home Performance trainer for several organizations all over the state.   He was a Trainer and also President of Building Performance Services, a Bay area building Science consulting firm dedicated to helping architects, builders and homeowners make homes more comfortable, healthier, and energy efficient.  He specializes in green home performance and building technology consulting with a focus on preventing and resolving problems related to building design, construction, and operation.
 
Kevin has been in the residential construction industry in California for over thirty years.  His family started selling Lumber and Hardware in Los Angeles in 1922.  He is dedicated to the “green” movement and hopes to help many more construction professionals embrace and accept green building as the “new” industry standard.  Kevin was in the very first group to be certified as a Certified Green Building Professional in the bay area in 2003.  He is a self-proclaimed lifelong student of Building Science and Home Performance. 
 
Kevin is a certified BPI Building Analyst, Building Envelope Specialist, Heating Professional, and Multi Family Building Analyst.  He is also a BPI Super Proctor training others to conduct field exams for BPI.  Kevin also is a practicing Certified Energy Plans Examiner, a GreenPoint Rater for New & Existing Homes, a LEED GreenRater, a HERS Rater for residential including QII and Solar verifications, and a residential and light commercial energy consultant.
