Biography

Kevin Bayuk, Permaculture SF
Kevin is currently leveraging his skills and relationships to develop organizations and projects that regenerate healthy ecosystems and socially just environments. He serves on the
Board of Directors for the Urban Alliance for Sustainability, and teaches with the Urban Permaculture Institute, Urban Permaculture Guild, and UC Berkeley Extension and Earth Activist Training. Kevin facilitates permaculture trainings and shares his skills in organic gardening and composting in playshops and community workshops.

Chris Geiger manages the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Green Purchasing Programs for the City and County of San Francisco, California.  The San Francisco IPM Program has reduced the City’s pesticide use by about 80% since its inception, received the National IPM Achievement Award in 2006, and has been widely emulated nationwide.  The Green Purchasing or “SF Approved” Program develops environmentally friendly specifications for a wide variety of products purchased by City departments, such as cleaning products, papers, computers, and lighting products.  Dr. Geiger coordinates program activities, manages consultant contracts, and conducts technical reviews.  He also serves as a member of the US Green Building Council’s Materials and Resources Technical Advisory Group, sits on the Steering Committee for the national Responsible Purchasing Network, and is on the Board of Directors for the Bay Friendly Landscaping Coalition, which seeks to promote the Bay Friendly Landscape guidelines and certifications throughout the region.

Before coming to the San Francisco Dept. of the Environment, Chris worked with the California Department of Pesticide Regulation in Sacramento, where he was central in implementation of the statewide Pest Management Alliance and School IPM Programs.  He chaired an agency-level committee on wine grape sustainability, whose members included wine industry leaders and CalEPA representatives.  His commitment to collaborative problem solving extends back to his work as Project Director with Save the Children, where he organized regular problem-solving/educational meetings with Southeast Asian farmers and extensionists.  As a Fulbright scholar in Thailand, Dr. Geiger conducted quantitative ecology research on fast-growing leguminous tree species; in his later work with the University of California, he researched practical IPM methods in grape vineyards.
