Course Description

Get ready for new business opportunities with the GreenPoint Rated Existing Home Training! Green home label incentives will be available to homeonwers in Alameda County starting next year. Combined with energy upgrade rebates currently available through Energy Upgrade California,getting a green label more will be affordable than ever, and Existing Home Raters will be more in demand.

Current GreenPoint Rater and Advisors for New Home can attend this 2-day course to become a Certified GreenPoint Rater or Advisor for existing and remodeled homes. This course builds on the GreenPoint Rater - New Home (GPR-NH) Training.

This course uses visual examples of actual construction sites, demonstrating how to verify each of the GreenPoint Rated - Existing Home measures. You will participate in interactive exercises and case studies to help you learn the process. Energy software will be demonstrated, and you will learn step-by-step processes to be an effective GreenPoint Rater or Advisor for Existing Home (GPR - EH).
To become a GreenPoint Rater or Advisor - EH, you must:

Meet eligibility requirements
Take course and pass exam

In this course, you will learn:

The objectives of GreenPoint Rated - EH program
Verification of the GreenPoint Rated - EH measures
How to perform ratings for both Whole House and Elements
GreenPoint Rated - EH Program Policies and Procedures
Health and other required safety measures
Energy consumption requirements
Energy software demonstration
Services and resources available from Build It Green

At the end of this course, you should be able to demonstrate how to:

Talk with homeowners about the benefits of having their homes rated
Work with the homeowner
Compare this program to other rating systems and relevant programs
Complete an Energy Consumption Take-Off
Understand the usage of the energy software
Rate or Advise to design/build an existing home, step-by-step
Work with Build It Green during the rating process

Eligibility Requirements

The GreenPoint Rated: Advisor and Rater Existing Home training is open to GreenPoint Rated: Advisors or Raters (New Home) who are interested in adding green ratings and advising for existing homes to their portfolio of services.

Eligibility for GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Advisor

To earn GreenPoint Advisor - Existing Home certification, you need to complete the GreenPoint Rated: Advisor or Rater application for Existing Homes and meet each the following requirements:

Be a current Certified GreenPoint Rater in good standing
Provide documentation of at least ONE credential showing building or home performance experience - listed on our GreenPoint Rated Eligibility Page - READ MORE

Eligibility for GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Rater

In addition to completion of the Certified GreenPoint Rater New Home training, Raters attending the Existing Home training must have prior experience with home performance testing and building science, as well as working knowledge of construction and experience with vintage features.

To earn GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Rater certification, you need to complete the GreenPoint Rated: Advisor or Rater application for Existing Homes and meet ALL of the following requirements:

Be a current Certified GreenPoint Rater in good standing
Provide documentation of at least ONE credential showing building or home performance experience - listed on our GreenPoint Rated Eligibility Page - READ MORE

Certification for both GreenPoint Rated: Existing Home Rater and Advisor designations are valid for two years, at which time Recertification is required to keep certification current.

Petition for Participation

For students who do not have one of the prerequisite credentials listed on our GreenPoint Rated Eligibility Page, we offer a petition option. A petition is a written explanation and documentation of how the student has the equivilent of 4 years mastery level experience in new home construction or existing home retrofit and remodel.
