New energy and green requirements in California’s 2013 Building Code go into effect on January 1, 2014. The new energy code is slated to be approximately 25% more rigorous across climate zones to meet California’s goal for all new homes to be net zero by 2020. Updates to CALGreen, the state’s green building code, will likely include provisions for residential additions and major remodels. GreenPoint Rated is also modifying its program in unison with these code changes.
