Ted Reiff is founder and president of The ReUse People of America, Inc. (TRP), an environmental organization that salvages used building materials and distributes them in California, Colorado, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas,Texas, Connecticut, North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio, District of Columbia and Mexico. TRP is a leader in the emerging field of deconstruction, which, unlike traditional demolition, involves the careful dismantling of buildings in order to preserve their reusable components.

 

Since its founding in 1993, TRP has deconstructed over 1,000 buildings ranging from single family residences to military housing complexes and large-scale motion picture sets. TRP has diverted over 300,000 tons from local landfills.

 

TRP is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area with additional offices in Los Angeles, San Diego, Boulder/Denver, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, West Haven, Charleston, Durham, and Washington, DC and is implementing plans to expand to every major metropolitan area in the U.S. and internationally over the next few years.

 

TRP works collaboratively with contractors, architects and designers, Habitat for Humanity, the Delta Institute’s ReBuilding Exchange, specialty wood mills, consignment stores and resellers of used building materials. Additionally, TRP is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Build It Green, the Building Materials Reuse Association and the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.

 

Ted has consulted with private as well as federal, county and municipal governments on demolition waste diversion, deconstruction feasibility studies, demolition vs. deconstruction cost estimating, deconstruction training and project management.

 

Early in his career, he was a retail systems consultant for an international consulting company specializing in distribution systems. Prior to founding TRP he was managing partner for an investment banking firm that provided a variety of financial services to young technology companies.

 

A graduate of The Ohio State University, Ted is a former member of the Board of Directors of I Love a Clean San Diego, Inc. where he served three terms as President, board member and Treasurer of the Building Materials Reuse Association, and a licensed contractor.
