We'll take a look at the highest rated GreenPoint Rated home, the residence of EarthBound Homes president Dr. David Edwards, 7 years after construction was completed. How have material choices, systems and building methods performed over time? What would Dave do differently today? We'll also look at the home's energy efficiency performance now that it has been monitored for the last year with the e-monitor system.

Brent Bucknum of Hyphae Design will speak about Hyphae's experience designing, engineering, permitting, installing, maintaining and advocating for innovative, or in some cases, very "traditional" residential water systems. While, we often think "green" systems are cutting edge, many of them are age old techniques. In fact, Brent's 90 year old grandfather's reaction to his grandson's innovative work is: "well...that's just country plumbing!"

Brent will present greywater, rainwater, and integrated water management techniques and provide real life case studies from projects in Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz County.

The Living Building Challenge strives for the most advanced measure of sustainability in the built environment possible. Whether your project is a single building or a complete neighborhood, Living Building Challenge provides a framework for design, construction and the symbiotic relationship between people and all aspects of the built environment.

We'll outline the Challenge's seven performance areas, and 20 imperatives required for a successful LBC design, look at several projects that have completed their certification review period, and explore a project in the early design phase, an Eco Village in West Marin.

We'll talk about the code update process, key changes and additions as compared to the current energy code; how this affects builders, designers, contractors, and Raters; and we'll give a brief explanation of reach codes and where we are in relation to California Energy Commissions long term goals.
