Help Create Demand for
Green Homes
Ask most homeowners how they can decrease the environmental impact of their home, and they’re likely to think of switching out light bulbs and taking out the recycling. These are good actions to take of course, but they’re not nearly as impactful as green home retrofits and energy efficiency upgrades. Build It Green is educating the public about the immense impact their homes have on the environment, and you can help! Join our cause on Facebook Causes today.

NARI National has announced the Regional CotY (Contractor of the Year) Awards winners for 2011, and we are proud to announce that two of our members are among the winners: Alward Construction in Berkeley received the award for “Residential Exterior Specialty,” and our board president’s company, McCutcheon Construction, won the category “Residential Interior $100,000 and Over.” These Regional winners were also winners of the local REMMIES Awards. See a full list of Build It Green Members, many of whom continue to lead the way in green building excellence and innovation.
Green MLS 2.0: Demonstrating the Market Value of Green Homes
Some regional Multiple Listing Services (MLS), which are used to list and search properties according to specific search criteria, are beginning to include green certifications and other green features as search options. Third party standards for remodels – like Build It Green’s GreenPoint Rated program – make it both easier to validate green upgrades on existing homes and to differentiate them in an MLS. This article shows how the next generation of green MLS’s will lead to a self-sustaining demand for green retrofits.
