Recertification Policies

Upon completing the requirements to be a Certified GreenPoint Advisor and Rater for New Home, you will choose a status of Rater or Advisor. If no choice is made, you will be automatically designated with a Rater status. The certification is good for two years from issuance. To maintain your Rater-New Home certification status beyond that time frame, you need to:
  1. Conduct at least two GreenPoint ratings (either New Home or Existing Home) in two years as a Rater OR complete a Recertification Exam
  2. Successfully complete 16 approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) over two years in the green building and/or residential construction fields; and
  3. Comply with the GreenPoint Rater Code of Conduct.
To maintain your Advisor- New Home certification status beyond that time frame, you need to:
  1. Successfully complete 16 approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) over two years in the residential green building field
To maintain your Rater-Existing Home certification status beyond that time frame, you need to:
  1. Conduct at least two GreenPoint ratings for Existing Home in two years as a Rater OR complete a Recertification Exam
  2. Successfully complete 16 approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) over two years in the green building and/or residential construction fields; and
  3. Comply with the GreenPoint Rater Code of Conduct.
To maintain your Advisor- Existing Home certification status beyond that time frame, you need to:
  1. Successfully complete 16 approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs) over two years in the residential green building field
At the end of your two-year certification period, if you have satisfied the above conditions and submitted documentation (see Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for further detail) to Build It Green to verify such, your  certification will be renewed for an additional two years. If you do not meet the above conditions, your contact information will be removed from the Certified Professionals Directory and your certification status will be made inactive. If you are a Rater and have completed the requirements for the Advisor status, but have not conducted enough GreenPoint Ratings to maintain the Rater status, you will automatically be granted the Advisor status.
 
** NOTE: If you are also a CGBP, you will now receritfy for both certifications at one time and will remain on your GPR certification cycle dates going forward.

As an active Rater, you are eligible to incorporate the Certified GreenPoint Rater logo into your marketing materials and submit verified projects to Build It Green for a GreenPoint Rated Certificate of Evaluation. Your Rater status must be active as of the date you submit final verification results for a project to receive a certificate. Any projects you submit after your certification lapses will be ineligible for a project certificate unless you reactivate your certification within the 90 day grace period.


How To Apply

You may follow the steps below now; however, it is important to note that we will be releasing a new online tracking system in 2010 and will contact all CGBPs and GPRs directly with your Guild and Advanced attendance records from 2007 - present and an invitation to recertify.  All certifications are temporarily extended through June 1, 2010. 
 
Please be sure to check your email for your user name and password to access our other new website features and make sure your contact information is up to date.
 
If you would prefer to apply now, please follow these steps; be aware that directory listing changes also will not be reflected at this time:  
  1. Download and complete a Recertification Application
  2. Fill out the Continuing Education Unit Form Tab for all classes/courses/workshops taken, contained in the application
  3. For courses not on the Approved CEU List Tab please fill out and submit the CEU Course Approval Form Tab, contained in the application.
  4. Include copies of Verification of Attendance to non-Build It Green courses
    i.e. Certificate of Completion, Receipt of Payment, Instructor Signature, transcript
  5. Submit your application and recertification. GreenPoint Raters and Advisors recertifying for CGBP as well are exempt from the $50 recertificaiton fee, as recertification fees are included in your annual dues.
